Hero TUESDAY
‘LUKE’
As an ex serviceman, it saddens me to read such an article, yet another one of our brothers, lost to the conflict that is terrorism. I fully respect our brothers from Crossfit Cardiff, who have this to say about today’s workout…
With regret and sorrow we again dedicate our day to the fallen.
On Monday the 26th of March Sergeant Luke Taylor, 33, from Bournemouth was shot dead at the gates of Lashkar Gah main operating base; the British HQ in Helmad, Afghanistan.
Sgt Taylor joined the Marines in 1997 and was described as a “selfless, dedicated and talented” Marine “who approached everything he did with passion, a keen sense of humour and the desire to excel”.
Sgt Taylor was described by his Commanding Officer as being “fearless” and a “natural” leader. Luke who would of turned 34 this week leaves behind his wife Nicola and young son Rowan.
He arrived in Afghanistan just four weeks before his death.
John Blackmore (Blackie) contacted us to request that we honour Luke, here is what he said.
“Alright mate, you don’t know me, my name is blackie and am currently serving in afghan. The lads and I are avid crossfitters and follow the main site to a certain extent, but more often we use your sites wod’s. There are about 10 of us that train together daily, one of the lads was Sgt Luke Taylor RM who died a few days ago, Luke always took part in our wod’s where possible and when time allowed. I know you have posted hero wod’s for lads who have been killed in the past, so would it be possible to do one for Luke? It would be much appreciated, we will smash it in his honour out here, and we have spoken about it and (if you wouldn’t mind) would come and see your box and do the workout with you guys when we come back later in the year. Let me know what you think, cheers dude blackie.”
He went on to say this about Luke
“Luke was the epitome of a family man, and doted on Rowan and his wife. He was one of the blokes who although despised the wod’s whilst doing them, loved it afterwards!! Also a proud bootneck, all cut short by unfortuantly being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
We at CrossFit Cardiff hold the upmost respect for our soldiers and wish the safe return of Blackie and the rest of his unit.
We again ask you to take an hour out of your day to come and honour Luke Taylor in the way that we do, when it hurts think of him, think of the sacrifice he made for his country.
We will remember him
We salute Crossfit Cardiff and HONOUR the fallen with this WOD, may he rest in peace and may his brothers overseas return safely to their loved ones.
Join us today at Crossfit Clitheroe to pay your respects…
